Flinders Pier

Flinders Pier, on a good day , the best pier dive in Victoria, on a bad day possibly the worst! Good job today was on of the best , great vis , near calm conditions and a high tide. (always check the tides for this pier otherwise you will not enjoy it at all, High tide  or near to is the only time  to go)

Parking is at the top of the pier and toilets etc are found in the carpark. If is a hot day you may want to leave the final gear up until you are at the platform. The first platform has a 2nd landing which at high tide is underwater making it easier to get back on the pier. Theft can be an issue here due to remoteness so be careful to lock up the car.

This site is Famous for the Weedy Sea dragons, and they are very numerous on a good day, but almost always can be found under the pier and in the nearby weeds.

Numerous other fish types can also be found

Numerous other fish can be found under the pier, depending on season and conditions. Two string rays  are usually in attendance but during busy times seemed to prefer peace elsewhere.

Cuttlefish found at the of the pier

This cuttlefish was  toward the end of the  pier. sometimes hard to spot.
There is a small wreck mostly buried straight out from the end of pier, but watch for fishing lines which can be cast  out from the end quite a way.

A great nursery area so during the start of summer you may find schools of little fish

At the end of the dive, exit via the first platform or simply swim out, although the end is shallow.

The finders bakery makes a good place for after dive drinks and food.
Either head back through red hill or up the coast through Merricks for a different way home.

Like most piers they are breeding grounds, so watch  for the schools and take the time to see what is growing.
